Former MasterChef México Star, 38, Dies After Beltway Crash—Brother’s Farewell Post Sparks Outpouring of Love

Yanin Rocío Campos Ruiz, the beloved nurse-turned-chef who stole hearts on Season 4 of MasterChef México, has died from injuries sustained in a weekend collision in Chihuahua City. She was 38.
Early Saturday, August 2, around 6:30 a.m., Yanin’s black GMC Terrain struck a parked Ford Econoline on the R. Almada beltway near Privada de Samaniego. Paramedics rushed her to Christus Muguerza del Parque Hospital, where she fought for two days before passing away on Monday afternoon. Investigators are now examining speed and possible distraction as factors.
Born in 1987, Yanin balanced two callings: twelve-hour hospital shifts and a thriving culinary side-hustle that landed her sixth place on MasterChef México in 2018 and an 11th-place return in La Revancha the following year. Viewers loved her fearless flavor combinations and warm laugh; locals knew her as host of the TV show La Tertulia and from her upbeat YouTube recipes.
Producer Iker Emerson Navarrete summed up the industry’s grief on Instagram: “Vuela muy, muy alto @yanin_chefmx.”
Yanin’s brother, Raúl Campos, broke the news on Facebook:
“To family and friends, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my sister, Yanin Campos… viewing today at 12 p.m. at Hernández Funeral Home.”
Hundreds replied with memories, prayers, and promises to keep her “genuine smile and unstoppable spirit” alive.
Her final Instagram post—April 19, 2023—shows her beaming beside a red London phone box with the caption, “Taking a stroll ❤️.” Since the announcement, the comment thread has turned into a digital vigil: heart emojis, candle GIFs, and messages reading, “Rest in peace, beautiful—your light won’t fade.”
