As London gears up for King Charles’ birthday parade this Saturday (June 14), many recall a touching moment from last year when the King broke royal protocol for a heartfelt reason.
Thousands are expected to line the Mall for Trooping the Colour, the annual event marking the monarch’s official birthday. The celebration includes a grand military parade, a Royal Family balcony appearance, and an RAF flypast.
Over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians are set to take part, with the royal procession beginning at 10 a.m. and the flypast at 1 p.m. Though the King’s actual birthday is November 14, the tradition dates back over 260 years.
This year is King Charles’ third Trooping the Colour as monarch. Last year’s event stood out when, breaking tradition, Princess Kate—then undergoing cancer treatment—stood beside the King during the flypast, rather than next to Prince William.
