Enigmatic Pup by Dumpster Leaves Rescuers Puzzled

“We can’t wait to see what the DNA results reveal.”

In Dallas, Texas, police officers recently stumbled upon a tiny pup curled up beside a dumpster. How he ended up abandoned there remains a mystery — but that wasn’t the only question.

What kind of animal was this little one?

When Dallas Animal Services stepped in to help, even their experienced staff couldn’t agree. Some insisted he looked like a domestic dog, while others swore he resembled a wild coyote.

“The officer brought him to the shelter, and everyone was saying he looked exactly like a baby coyote,” shared Marlo Clingman, spokesperson for Dallas Animal Services.

Could it really be that this wasn’t a dog at all, but something wilder?

The debate quickly turned to whether the pup was a dog, a coyote, or perhaps even a rare hybrid. Since appearances alone couldn’t settle the matter, a DNA test was ordered.

“His eyes resemble those of a domesticated breed, but we’re all eager to see what science says,” Clingman explained.

While the results are still pending, the pup — now named Toast — has already found warmth and care. He’s currently being fostered by wildlife officer Jacqueline Sutherland, who’s making sure he feels safe and loved until the truth comes out.

“Toast is wonderful — fluffy, playful, and full of life,” Clingman said. “Once the DNA results arrive, we’ll know if he can be adopted or if another placement will be needed.”

For now, Toast remains a mystery wrapped in fur — a living puzzle that has everyone waiting for the final answer.
