Harry had always been obsessed with his career, and that morning was no different. He was preoccupied with his phone, barely acknowledging his wife, Sara, or their sons, Cody and Sonny, as he rushed to get ready for his big presentation. When Sara mentioned his lucky white shirt was in the wash, Harry exploded.
“This is a big day for me, and you’re making excuses?” he snapped.
Sara held her ground. “You’re overreacting. It’s just a shirt.”
Harry stormed out, convinced his day would be ruined without it. But his presentation went better than expected, and he landed a promotion. He expected Sara to call and apologize, like she always did after their fights. But this time, she didn’t.
When he got home, the apartment was empty. On the table, a note read: “I want a divorce.”
Panic set in. He called Sara’s sister, Zara, who told him Sara was in the hospital. When he rushed to see her, Zara confronted him: “You told her she wasn’t ‘wife’ enough for you?”
Harry ignored her, pushing past to see Sara. She was weak but stable, but her words cut deep: “I’m done. Divorce is the only thing I want.”
“What about the kids?” Harry pleaded.
“They’re staying with you,” she said coldly.
A Father’s Struggle
The next morning, Harry realized how hard parenting alone really was. He burned breakfast, scorched his shirt, and barely got the kids to school on time. His boss, Mr. Adams, noticed his declining performance and fired him.
“I need this job for my kids!” Harry begged, but it was too late.
Then, Sara called. She wanted to meet at a café—the same place they’d had their first date.
“I want custody,” she said.
Harry lost it. “After you abandoned them? They’re used to me now!”
Sara stood firm. “I’m their mother. I have rights.”
The Custody Battle
In court, Sara’s lawyer grilled Harry:
“Did you insult your wife, saying she did nothing at home?”
Harry admitted it. “It was an outburst. I was stressed—”
“Were you fired from your job?”
“Objection!” Harry’s lawyer shouted, but the judge overruled.
“Yes,” Harry confessed. “I couldn’t balance work and parenting. But I never gave up on my kids.”
Sara’s lawyer scoffed. “A freelance job? Low salary? How will you support them?”
Harry clenched his fists. “I’ll find a way.”
When Sara took the stand, she admitted Harry had always provided but never emotionally supported her.
“I had a nervous breakdown,” she said. “I needed to leave to get better.”
The judge ruled in Sara’s favor, granting her custody with Harry getting visitation rights and $860 monthly support.
The Kids’ Choice
On the day Sara came to pick up the boys, Cody suddenly pulled away.
“You’re just tearing us apart!” he shouted, running back to Harry.
“We want BOTH Mommy and Daddy!” Sonny cried.
Sara broke down, hugging them both.
