Just 90 minutes along scenic Highway 50 to Elmdale, Kansas, lies the Owl’s Nest Silo House, a unique vacation rental nestled in the heart of West Chase County among soybean fields and a gentle creek valley. Originally built as the Paw Print Cabin in 2019 by Gerald Wiens for occasional weekend rentals, the cabin saw unexpected popularity during the pandemic, booked over 180 nights.
Inspired by a nearby old silo, Gerald transformed it into a four-story, 45-foot-tall living space. The silo features a circular living room with leather chairs, a stone-framed gas fireplace, a flat-screen TV, and a cleverly tucked half bathroom. Guests ascend winding stairs to reach the master bedroom on the fourth floor, making the journey as memorable as the stay itself.
The log cabin is already listed on Airbnb, and the silo rental will join soon. Gerald describes the project as a true labor of love, with countless hours dedicated to turning an unusual structure into a cozy and creative home away from home.
