Tragedy struck Midtown Manhattan on the evening of July 28, 2025, when a mass shooting inside a high-rise building claimed the lives of four individuals — including an off-duty NYPD officer. The chaos unfolded at 345 Park Avenue, located just steps from Grand Central Terminal and major landmarks like the Museum of Modern Art.
The gunman, confirmed to be a 27-year-old man originally from Hawaii but residing in Las Vegas, reportedly entered the building alone before opening fire. He held a Nevada permit for a concealed handgun and was formerly licensed as a private investigator. In his earlier years, he was known for playing competitive football.
Among the victims was an off-duty police officer working as a private security guard, who was fatally shot in the back. Three other civilians were also killed during the attack. Authorities later found the suspect dead inside the building from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Law enforcement arrived on the scene within moments, with hundreds of officers and FBI agents joining the investigation. Surveillance footage confirmed the shooter acted alone.
The skyscraper houses prominent offices, including those of the NFL and Blackstone, making the attack even more alarming for the city’s high-profile business district.
