Keeping cockroaches out of your bathroom can be tricky, especially when they enter through the shower drain. Bathrooms are warm and humid, making them ideal for these pests, and plumbing provides an easy pathway. Even with regular cleaning, unwanted visitors may appear. One surprisingly simple solution uses a common household item — a regular balloon.
Cockroaches often travel through pipes and small openings, seeking damp hiding spots. The balloon method helps reduce the drain’s opening, making it harder for them to get in. To try it, remove the drain cover and cut off both ends of a balloon to create a stretchy ring. Fit the ring around the edge of the drain cover so it forms a snug seal when replaced.
This setup still lets water flow while blocking most roaches. For best results, combine it with moisture control: keep surfaces dry, use ventilation fans, and clean around drains. A dry bathroom is far less appealing to cockroaches.
Also, inspect for gaps or cracks around pipes and seal them to prevent hidden entry points. By combining these steps — the balloon seal, dryness, and proper maintenance — you can greatly reduce the chance of roaches in your shower and maintain a cleaner, more comfortable bathroom.
