“Bondi Beach Rescuer Speaks Out with Heartbreaking Update”

Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the Bondi Beach hero who disarmed one of the shooters during Sydney’s Hanukkah terror attack, is recovering in hospital after being shot five times. The 43-year-old father of two courageously tackled gunman Sajid Akram, wrestling the rifle from him before being struck by Akram’s son, Naveed.

Initially reported as minor injuries, Al-Ahmed’s condition is more serious than first thought, with bullets lodged in his shoulder, arm, hand, and back. Doctors fear potential nerve damage that could threaten the use of his arm. From his hospital bed, he remains hopeful, asking for prayers for his recovery.

Known locally as a devoted family man and tobacconist, Al-Ahmed has been hailed globally for his bravery. Authorities, political leaders—including Australia’s Prime Minister and NSW Premier—and social media users have celebrated his courage. His GoFundMe campaign has raised over $2 million to support his recovery and care for his young daughters.

The December 14 attack left fifteen dead, including a 10-year-old girl, marking Australia’s deadliest incident since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. The surviving shooter, Naveed Akram, is now awake and will face charges once medically cleared.
