That’s exactly what Stella, a sweet and energetic pup, had to endure.
Adopted as a young puppy, Stella was thrilled to start her new life. She was renamed from Rye to Stella and welcomed into a home with children, other dogs, and big dreams of a forever family.
But just months later, it all came crashing down.
Her adoptive family brought her back to Longview PAWS, a non-profit supporting the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texas. Their reason? Stella was “too much.”
She was too playful. Too energetic. Too much of a puppy for their aging dog and young kids to handle.
Back at the shelter, Stella’s joy faded. She didn’t understand why her family left her. Her tail stopped wagging. Her eyes, once bright, grew distant.
And the cruelest part? Her birthday was just around the corner.
This wasn’t Stella’s first heartbreak.
As a nine-week-old pup, she’d been surrendered before — along with her siblings. But that time, she was quickly adopted and given a second chance.
Now, she was back in the same kennel, hoping for a third.
The shelter staff at Longview PAWS poured their love into her. They walked her, played with her, and reminded her she was worthy — even when she seemed to doubt it.
But they all knew: no amount of kindness from staff could replace the bond of a true family.
Stella needed people who saw her not as “too much,” but as just right — a young, joyful dog who needed space to run, play, and grow.
They hoped for an active household — one that would embrace her energy, not fear it.
